Opinion: Let’s show we care about our school boards

The Quebec Community Groups Network has long held that strong English-language institutions in the health, social services, education and community groups sectors are the cornerstones of our communities. A strong English-language school system is recognized as being crucial to the vitality and survival of our minority-language community.  For many English-speaking Quebecers, the school board and its schools are the only English-language institutions in their region.

As it has been seven years since the last school-board elections, this year’s elections will be critical, particularly in light of certain comments regarding the future of school boards.

Although successive governments since the 1960s have reduced the number of school boards across Quebec, governance by elected community members has remained a constant feature.
