Trailblazer, bridge-builder, Victor Goldbloom dies at age 92

The doctor, MNA, and former commissioner of Official Languages, Victor Goldbloom, has died of a heart attack.

Goldbloom was born in Montreal in 1923 and followed in his father’s footsteps, becoming a pediatrician in the 1940s.

He worked in New York at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Centre before returning to Canada and joining politics in the 1960s. Read More

QCGN Seeks Exceptional Individuals who Contribute to Vitality of English-Speaking Community

Montreal, April 20, 2015 – 
The Quebec Community Groups Network (QCGN) is welcoming nominations of individuals who have gone above and beyond in contributing to the vitality and understanding of English-speaking Quebec for recognition with a Sheila and Victor Goldbloom Distinguished Community Service Award. The award, which recognizes individuals who have contributed to strengthening the English-speaking community and to building bridges between Quebecers of different backgrounds, was established by the QCGN in 2009 to celebrate individuals who, like Dr. and Mrs. Goldbloom, have dedicated themselves to ensuring English-speaking Quebec remains a vibrant community within Quebec and Canada.

English-speaking community honours three of its finest

It was an evening of recognition and celebration as leading members of Quebec’s English-speaking communities gathered to honour three of their finest.

Some 150 activists, past and present, and those who support their work dined together at the St. James Club on Union St. Thursday to pay tribute to the leadership, selfless dedication and achievements of James Hughes, Eric Maldoff and Marjorie Sharp.

They are the recipients of the sixth annual Sheila and Victor Goldbloom Distinguished Community Service Award, presented by the Quebec Community Groups Network (QCGN), which organized the tribute event.

Introducing the winners, Irene Tschernomor, a QCGN board member who chaired the jury, said “These wonderful individuals, who have devoted themselves to improving the lives of their peers, truly represent the values of community leadership.”

Community advocates earn Goldbloom award

MONTREAL — Three advocates for the city’s most vulnerable are being awarded the Sheila and Victor Goldbloom Distinguished Service Award by the Quebec Community Groups Network.

Eric Maldoff, Marjorie Sharp and James Hughes are the recipients of this year’s award, on the sixth year they are being handed out. They’ll receive their honours at a ceremony at Montreal’s St. James Club on Oct. 23.

Hughes, Maldoff and Sharp to receive Goldbloom Awards for Community Contributions

The Quebec Community Groups Network (QCGN) is pleased to bestow its sixth annual Sheila and Victor Goldbloom Distinguished Community Service Awards on James Hughes, Eric Maldoff and Marjorie Sharp, three individuals who have improved the lives of English-speaking Quebecers both as dedicated volunteers and in their professional careers.

“These are wonderful individuals who devoted their considerable skills to improve the lives of their peers and who truly represent the values of community leadership for which this award was created,” commented QCGN Board Member and Jury chair Irene Tschernomor. “We received a great many nominations and the judges had a difficult task in narrowing down the list.”

Group seeks nominations for Sheila and Victor Goldbloom Distinguished Community Service Award

MONTREAL — Awards may come and go, but it’s still important to take time to recognize those playing key roles in their communities, said Father John Walsh, who won the Sheila and Victor Goldbloom Distinguished Community Service Award in 2012.

For the last five years, the Quebec Community Groups Network (QCGN) has honoured Quebecers who have done just that in the English-speaking community through its annual “Goldbloom Award.”

Now it’s looking for nominations for this year’s awards ceremony, to be held in October.
