Atwater Library and Computer Centre is an independent charitable organization providing educational, cultural and social programs in the Montreal region, using traditional and cutting-edge ways of fostering learning, creativity and discussion. The Library’s heritage building functions as a hub of English-language activities. The organization also does extensive outreach and collaborates with many groups and schools. In addition to a lending library, programs include digital literacy, financial literacy, a Lunchtime Series of lectures and concerts, evening poetry readings and book discussions. The Library has an exhibition on Quebec’s English-language writers and hopes to develop a writers museum. Founded in 1828 as a mechanics’ institute, the organization has a long history of serving Montrealers.
