The Quebec English-Speaking Communities Research Network (QUESCREN) is pleased to invite you to an online Lunch & Learn event on COVID-19 Impacts on the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Border Community with Cathy Martin, Ph.D. Dr. Martin is a Mi’gmaq woman who was raised and resided in the Listuguj First Nation for most of her life. A QUESCREN researcher-member, Dr. Martin has a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Phoenix. She recently published Strengthening Canadian Indigenous Relationships and Decision-Making Processes. She has been an elected member of council for three terms for the Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government; two of those terms she was elected Chief Councillor. The online zoom event takes place Thursday, February 25 from noon to 1 p.m. The Zoom link will be sent to people who register here. The Listuguj Mi’gmaq First Nation community is located near the New Brunswick provincial border. Given that this community functions primarily in English, border restrictions imposed by the New Brunswick provincial government to prevent the spread of Covid-19 have had a significant impact on this nation’s ability to access essential services. Dr. Martin will present research conducted within her community on the impacts of the border closure, broader language issues, and possible solutions to these challenges.
